ABOUT NYC PRENUP

We are a New York law practice that focuses exclusively on prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Every agreement we send to a client has been drafted or reviewed by a licensed New York attorney — not a paralegal, legal assistant, or document preparer. We're the same as a traditional law firm for this kind of work, minus the wait time and the cost.

What we do, and why we only do this

Most law firms handle dozens of practice areas — divorce, custody, estate planning, real estate, immigration, criminal defense — and prenuptial agreements are one item on a long list. We've taken the opposite approach. We focus exclusively on prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, and cohabitation agreements.

Specialization is what makes our flat $799 fee possible. We're not spending time spinning up to speed on unfamiliar areas of law. We're not absorbing the overhead of a full-service practice. Our intake, drafting templates, and review processes are built for one job, and we do that job repeatedly. The cost savings flow back to clients, and the quality of the agreements is sharper than it would be if drafting prenups were a side practice for our attorneys.

Every agreement we draft complies with New York Domestic Relations Law §236(B)(3) and the body of New York case law that governs how prenups are evaluated and enforced.

How we're different from form-agreement sites

The internet has plenty of websites offering cheap "form agreements" — generic templates that promise a valid prenup for under $200. They're often called "document preparation" services or have other legal-sounding names that don't mean what they appear to mean. The agreements they produce are frequently inadequate or unenforceable in New York courts because they miss the formal acknowledgment requirements, fail to include proper financial disclosure, or use language that doesn't comply with the specific drafting standards set by New York case law.

When you work with us, you're working with licensed New York attorneys who tailor each agreement to your circumstances. Your information goes into our secure system — we don't need bank account numbers or Social Security numbers, just the general financial picture our attorneys need to draft well. Our attorneys then produce a document built for your situation, not a fill-in-the-blank template.

Which state's law will govern your prenup?

This is one of the most common points of confusion, so it's worth addressing directly: the state that will govern your prenuptial agreement is generally the state you intend to reside in after marriage — not the state where you got married, and not the state where you currently live if you're planning to move.

If you'll live in New York after the wedding, you want a prenup drafted under New York law, regardless of where the ceremony takes place. If you're moving out of New York after the wedding, you may want to consult an attorney licensed in your destination state instead. We can help you think through this if you're not sure.

Confidentiality and information security

Your information stays confidential. We use secure systems for intake and document delivery, we don't request information we don't need (we never ask for Social Security numbers or full bank account numbers), and we don't share client information with third parties except as required by law or as necessary to provide the service you've engaged us for.

Our Founding Attorney

Daniel Kennedy, Esq. — Founder

Daniel Kennedy founded NYC Prenup after years of practicing matrimonial and family law in New York, Connecticut, and Illinois. In private practice, he has drafted and negotiated prenuptial and postnuptial agreements for clients across the full spectrum of New York life — from high-net-worth individuals and public figures to small business owners and stay-at-home parents. That breadth shapes how he approaches every agreement: a prenup that works for one couple won't work for another, and the document has to reflect the people signing it, not a template.

Daniel has appeared as a legal expert on camera and in print for multiple media outlets, and has been selected by Super Lawyers magazine in each consecutive year from 2010 through 2025 — fifteen years of peer recognition in matrimonial and family law.

At NYC Prenup, Daniel personally oversees the drafting standards and supervises every agreement that goes out the door.
